Fight fans were treated to night of mixed martial excellence this past Saturday night at Claymont High School in Uhrichsville, OH as the NAAFS presented Caged Fury 11. The event featured rising stars in both the National Amateur & Pro Series, looking to make an impact as we begin the home stretch towards Fight Nite in the Flats VI in June. In addition, the NAAFS was able to contribute back to the loyal fans of Tuscarawas County.

Taking the fight on just a week’s notice, Aaron Maynard (11-3) made a successful Pro Series Lightweight Division debut, defeating hometown favorite John “Mongoose” Myers (10-8) by Triangle Choke at 1:02 into the first round of their main event fight. Maynard averted Myers unorthodox style and showed exactly why he was promoted to purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by Team Prodigy coach Jamie Toney following Aaron’s win over Sean Paul Veilleux for the 2008 National Amateur Welterweight Championship.

This marks the fourth time in five NAAFS fights that Maynard has defeated his opponent by Triangle Choke, adding another threat to the already exciting and deep Pro Series Lightweight Division.

Brian “The Predator” Rogers continues to be one of the most exciting and most popular fighters in the Pro Series Middleweight Division. At Caged Fury 10, he improved his record to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in the NAAFS by virtue of his first round TKO victory over a very tough Neil Craft (13-5) of Walker MMA.

Rogers missed an attempted flying knee early in the round, but made up for it with a barrage of ground and pound shots that left the referee no choice but to call a stop to the action at 2:21 of round one.

Following the fight, Rogers celebrated in grand style befitting of his nickname by donning a Predator mask and then genuinely thanked his Strong Style teammates, family and friends for all of their love and support.

USA Martial Arts showed once again why they are fast becoming one of the top gyms in all the NAAFS, when Brandon “X-Man” Hance (8-3) defeated 2009 National Amateur Featherweight Champion Doug Kulbis (8-1) by Arm Bar at 1:21 of the first round of their Pro Series Featherweight fight.

Meanwhile, new blood was introduced to the Pro Series Bantamweight Division when Matt Tincher (1-1) of Walker MMA defeated Lee “The Kid” Kreisher (0-2) by Triangle Choke at 2:01 into the first round.

With the initial 2009 National Amateur Series Rankings to be released soon, some of the promotions top young stars laid it all online at Caged Fury 10 looking to carve out a name.

T-County favorite & 2009 National Amateur Finalist Jason “Rampage” Rauch (10-1) of Main Street MMA defeated a tough Nate Bryant (6-2) by Unanimous Decision.

It has been said that the measure of good fighter is how you rebound after your first defeat and Rauch did just that at Caged Fury 10, by using the skills that have brought him ten wins in his career.

“X-Rayted” Ray Halasz (4-0) introduced himself to the National Amateur Welterweight Division by defeating one the division’s top stars, Travis Soto (5-2), in Soto’s backyard.

In the unfamiliar role as the “road team”, the Strong Style prospect was able to impose his will on the T-County native and ultimately grind out the Unanimous Decision victory.

At 4-0, Halasz has to be considered a name to keep an eye on in the National Amateur Welterweight Division.

Casey Craft (3-0) of Dragon’s Den Indiana made a strong case for himself in the National Amateur Lightweight Division, defeating the previously unbeaten Wally McDonald (4-1) at just 20 seconds into the fight.

Whereas it was Clint Musselman (3-0) of PM Fight Club doing the same in a National Amateur Featherweight Division bout defeating Johnny Anderson (2-1) at just 19 seconds of the first round by Guillotine Choke. These are two names to keep an eye on as the 2009 NAAFS Season rolls on.

Adam Trisler (1-1) of Cambridge Martial Arts picked up the first win of his young career Unanimous Decision over AJ Materna (1-1) in their National Amateur Welterweight Division fight.

With NAAFS veteran Dan “Dragon” Spohn in his corner shouting instructions, Trisler was able to overcome Materna’s sizeable reach advantage to create some damage and pick up the victory on the judge’s scorecards.

Three fighters made successful MMA debuts at Caged Fury 10, including Deanna Beison (1-0) of Strong Style Fight Team who defeated Katie Knight (1-1) by Guillotine Choke at 2:59 of the second round.

Training alongside 2009 National Amateur Women’s Champion Jessica Eye, Beison definitely looks to be another force from Strong Style in the women’s division.

In The National Amateur Welterweight division, Cory Ferris (1-0) of Fountain’s Kickboxing Academy & Vander Fighting Systems defeated Mike Wolfarth (0-1) by Unanimous Decision.

Ferris’ Vander teammate was also successful, as Christopher Smith (1-0) of Vander Fighting Systems defeated Eric Reed (0-1) by Rear Naked Choke at :34 of the final round.

The NAAFS would like to thank all of the fans who attended Caged Fury 10 live in Uhrichsville and the 71,706 fans who tuned in live on USTREAM.tv to watch all of the action unfold! A special thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this event possible including; Claymont Superintendent Mr. Ryan Delaney and Eric Seibert, Tim Lally Chevrolet, Mr. John P. Lennon, Ustream.tv, United States Army, TapOut, BetonFighting.com, Monster Energy Drink, and the television home of the NAAFS; SportsTime Ohio.
