NAAFS After the Bell: Exclusive Interview with Jason “Dynamite” Dent
NAAFS After the Bell: Exclusive Interview with Jason “Dynamite” Dent
What was it like to return and compete at Fight Nite in the Flats VI?
It was exciting to fight back at home again. I really enjoy having my family, friends, and students there to support me.
As evident in the image above, you broke your arm during the first round of your main event fight against Chris Lozano at Fight Nite in the Flats VI. What was going through your mind when that happened?
Chris hit me with one of his high kicks at some point in round one, I felt the sharp sting but with my adrenaline pumping I didn’t realize it was broken until round one was over. I wanted the victory really bad so I decided to deal with the pain and keep fighting. My arm started going dead by the end of round two, which is why I started eating so many elbows. Every time I would hit him with a jab or a left hook I could feel the bone move around. It’s probably best the doctors stopped the fight after the fourth as I would not want to cause permanent damage to my arm.
What is the prognosis for your injury? Have the doctors told you how long it is expected to take to heal?
At first the doctors thought I would need a steel plate; but after the second x-ray showed the bone realigned to where it could heal itself. Currently in a cast for 4-6 weeks depending on the healing of the ulna.
There have been several rumors swirling around about your career status. What is next for Jason “Dynamite” Dent?
I was planning on taking a break after this fight anyways. I will most likely focus on my academy and its fighters for the time being. I thought about retiring and it’s still a possibility. Ideally I’m hoping this break will give me some time to get back to my weight class and refocus. I would like to think I have 10-15 more fights in me, but that all depends if my body will hold up. “ I did just turn 30 J lol”
You have fought only the toughest opponents in your career, with names like Roger Huerta, Torrance Taylor, and Cameron Dollar. Where would you rank Chris Lozano at on that list?
Chris is definitely tough as nails. I’m very impressed with his stand up abilities, especially his elbows. He was very accurate and hit very hard with them. However I never really got a chance to take a look at his ground game. It’s tough to really rank him amongst past opponents since we fought in a different weight class. I look forward to following Chris’s career and wish him the best.
Is there anybody you would like to thank?
I would like to thank my sponsors: Intimidation Clothing.com, Ganley Ford, The Rock House, East Mentor Family Chiropractor and Rehabilitation. I would also like to thank everyone at the GriffonRawl MMA Academy for helping me get ready for the fight. Last but not least a special thanks to my family, friends, and students who support me.
