Six Questions with Chris “The Assassin” Lozano

NAAFS.tv recently caught up with former Pro Series Middleweight Champion Chris “The Assassin” Lozano for an exclusive interview. He discusses signing with Bellator, fan support, and much more.

1.       It was announced in a press release earlier today that you’ve signed a contract with Bellator Fighting Championships. What made you decided that now was the right time to make the move to Bellator?

Bellator is a great organization and they have great talent over there. The offer they sent over was an awesome opportunity and a chance to change my life, so I’m going for it. This gives me a chance to compete amongst some of the best in the world, and make things better for myself and my family.

2.       Is there any word on a date or potential opponent for your Bellator debut?

The word is I will be fighting Yoshiyuki Yoshida. He is an olympic judo fighter with wins in the UFC. I look forward to testing myself against such a skilled opponent.

3.       Is there anything you’d like to say to the NAAFS fans that came to events to support you and continue to support you?

I would like to thank the NAAFS fans from the bottom of my heart. NAAFS has the best fans in the country. Thanks to everyone who believed in me and bought tickets to support all of us fighters. It’s the fans that make this possible for us. If not for you, the fans, we’d just be a bunch of dudes and ladies beating the crap out of eachother for no reason. Thank you NAAFS fans for everything!

4.       You recently were forced off the 4th Annual Rock N Rumble card due to a rib injury. How is the healing process going?

I’m back to 100%. I could have been ready to go but, in this sport, you don’t want to take chances like that. It was hard for me to bend, maneuver, and do the things I need to in order to fight my type of fight. The time off gave me the chance to heal and I’ll be more than ready September 30th when I face Yoshida.

5.       Who is someone coming up in the NAAFS that you think fans should keep a close eye on? Who has really impressed Chris Lozano?

The NAAFS has so many fighters that are going to be stars, its hard to say just one. The reason I was picked to fight for Bellator is because the NAAFS is nationally regarded as one of the premeir fight organizations in the country, because of the talent pool it has to offer. If you do well in the NAAFS, the bigger organizations definitely take notice and definitely respect your record more than if you fight for other shows. If I had to pick one name, I wouldn’t be able to give just one. There are so many fighters that are on the rise right now in the NAAFS its too hard to pick one name. Put it like this, if there’s a fighter doing well in the NAAFS, he or she can do well anywhere else in the sport of MMA.

6.       Is there anybody out there that you would like to thank?

I want to thank the NAAFS for giving me such a quality organization to fight for and to prove myself to world in. If the NAAFS wasn’t one of the top organizations in the country, I wouldn’t have this chance so soon. I also want to thank Strong Style Martial Arts for giving me the knowledge and skills needed to become the fighter I am today. Marcus Marinelli, the head instructor and owner of Strong Style Martial Arts, is the best coach in the country. His passion, dedication, and loyalty to mixed martial arts and the Strong Style Family has carried us to unimaginable places in the ring and out. I would like to thank the people who have sponsored me and helped me achieve my dreams: John P. Lennon, Laforce Lawncare, D. Daniel Productions, CAP Therapies & Consulting, & TruAssassin Fight Gear. Also, I’d like to thank my family, friends, and all the fans that supported me through all of this. Without all of these people, there would be no Chris “The Cleveland Assassin” Lozano. Thank you.
