When the dust settled, It was finally time to see two of the sports top young stars lay it all on the line in what will no doubt be an NAAFS Fight of the Year candidate.
Home town favorite Jessica Eye (7-0) took the center of the cage against Cincinnati’s young phenom Marisa Caldwell (4-2). The fight started innocently enough with Eye shooting out of her corner on the attack with Caldwell equally aggressive and instantly setting the pace for this epic battle. Caldwell, known for her crafty ground game, caught Eye’s attention early with a near submission but momentum shifted midway through the first round and Eye never looked back while showing off her entire arsenal.
In the end it Was Jessica Eye improving her perfect record to seven wins without a defeat and squashing any remaining critics. Caldwell lost for only the second time in her young career with her only other loss coming to Strike Force contender Jan Finney.
In the co-main event it was the much talked about rematch between “The All American Girl” Amanda Wilcoxen (6-1) vs. “The DNA Princess” Jesica Zomcik (5-2). The first fight between these two nationally ranked females took place in August of 09 at NAAFS Rock N Rumble when Wilcoxen won a controversial fight via armbar.
This time Zomcik left no doubt by out maneuvering and out-striking Wilcoxen who was never able to get things going and won a unanimous decision.
Illinois Temikka Brents (5-0-1) took care of business while dispatching the highly touted and very game Tera Carper (5-3) by TKO at 2:53 of the opening stanza. Brents once again showed NAAFS fans why she is considered one of the heaviest hitters in the female ranks. The nationally ranked Brents now has her sights set on the NAAFS national amateur title in December.
South Carolina’s Jordan McDonald (4-1) kept her national ranking after taking out Nebraska’s Summer Artherton (3-1) in back and forth chess match. McDonald’s next visit to the NAAFS cage could be in December as she will likely be part of Night of Champions 2010 card in Cleveland.
