Hendricks vs Spohn confirmed for Caged Fury 14!
Plus Chapman vs Saltsman meet on Stacked Card
1/6/10 (Cleveland, OH): The first NAAFS professional event of 2011 is now confirmed for Saturday, February 26th at the Grays Armory in Cleveland, OH. The Grays has become known for some legendary MMA events starting with Caged Vengeance 1 back in February of 2006 that featured the likes of Jason Dent, Josh Hendricks, Torrance Tayor and the unforgettable battle between Josh Stansbury and Jason Freeman among others. Fast forward five years and this historic arena will once again host what should be a night to remember as former HW champion Josh Hendricks (18-6) returns to the NAAFS as he takes on unbeaten break out star Dan “Dragon” Spohn (13-4) at Caged Fury 14.
Hendricks has won two of three fights since his UFC debut loss to Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 91. His only loss came in the NAAFS to then HW champion Joe McCall. Now, the new and improved Hendricks drops to 205 lbs for the first time in his career and looks to make another run to the top of the sport. “ I’m finally fighting where i need to be and probably should have been. Ive never felt better physically or mentally and cant wait to show fans what I can do when Im focused and at my best. ” said Josh Hendricks.
Dan Spohn couldn’t have scripted a better start to his professional career. After a successful run as an amateur in which he posted a 10-4 record, the Dragon has won his first three pro fights against some of the top light heavyweight prospects in the NAAFS. Wins over the likes of Josh Stansbury, Thad Schlichter and John Hawk over the past twelve months have put Spohn on the map while a win over a fighter the caliber of Hendricks could propel Spohn to not only an NAAFS title but also the national spotlight. “ Im glad to have the opportunity to fight someone who’s been where he’s been and I want to use this as a chance to show everyone that Im ready to take it to the next level.” stated Spohn.
Also slated to compete on the professional card at Caged Fury 14 will be former NAAFS Pro Series HW champion John Hawk, 2010 NAAFS national amateur lightweight champion Clint Musser who will make his professional debut. Plus former NAAFS amateur and Team GriffonRawl standout Bryon McCroskey will also makes his professional debut.
The amateur portion of the card will feature a highly anticipated bantamweight bout between 2010 national amateur bantamweight champion Isaiah Chapman (9-1) when battles up and coming phenom Tyler Saltsman (4-0).
Arguably the most dominant amateur in the NAAFS amateur series in 2010, Chapman will look to continue his onslaught and win his sixth straight fight in the process. A fierce striker and athletic grappler, Chapman is already one of the most accomplished amateurs in MMA history.
Former Penn State wrestling standout Tyler Saltsman has won his first four NAAFS fights and and is considered one the best wrestlers in amateur MMA and one of the favorites to win the 2011 national title in the NAAFS. The four time state wrestling champion from New Hampshire will no doubt face his toughest challenge to date when he meets Chapman at Caged Fury 14. In addition to the match-up itself, fans on the NAAFS news feed forums have been trash talking on behalf of both fighters in anticipation of one day seeing them face off……that day will be February 26th in Cleveland!
The remainder of the card and several more “special” Caged Fury 14 announcements will be released soon. Tickets for this great event will go on sale to the general public next Friday, January 14th and will be available at all Discount Drug Mart locations, on www.NAAFS.tv or by calling 330-280-8442. However NAAFS fans who are on the NAAFS Newsletter data base, NAAFS Facebook Friends, or NAAFS Twitter Followers, will have an exclusive three day period early next week to purchase tickets before the general public can buy them next Friday. Details will be sent out at the beginning of next week. All bouts are subject to change.

Spohn by a Gonzaga style beating
January 6th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
Spohn.
January 6th, 2011 at 7:17 pm
Spohn has the right attitude!
January 6th, 2011 at 7:32 pm
Musser vs McCroskey?
January 6th, 2011 at 9:49 pm
cody garbrandt vs victor gurrilo
January 7th, 2011 at 1:48 pm
chapman or saltsman?
January 7th, 2011 at 2:36 pm
i am a wrestler and im biased but i mentioned this on another forum. People seem to forget saltsman started for penn state and was a match away from freestyle all american in akron ohio as a sophomore. placed at world trials in vegas for 21 and under and beat a couple guys ranked in the top 20 for division 1… that to me is extremely impressive while hes also a high school 4X state champ. to put this in perspective Saltsman is on a higher level of wrestling than even cody garbrand who is a ohio state champ. Saltsman is bigger and stronger and has dominated everyone while chapman is more experienced and has better striking. I go with the strong wrestling base here.
January 7th, 2011 at 2:39 pm
Saltsman hands down!!!
January 7th, 2011 at 5:39 pm
Hendricks is washed up….
January 7th, 2011 at 5:42 pm
I am a washed up fighter, probably get the shit kicked out of me
January 7th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
musser wins. his wrestling is really good, former penn state wrestler. do him and tyler know eachother?
January 7th, 2011 at 7:49 pm
Cody would kill that bum….Only fight that really makes sensefor cody would be the winner of saltsman and chapman
January 7th, 2011 at 7:59 pm
or he should fight the loser and then the winner because cody is only like 2-1. he needs to build his record a little more so theres some more hype. yea victor is way too small, saltsman and chapman both exposed that even though victor took chapman down.
January 8th, 2011 at 12:21 am
Garbrandt would beat Saltsman and win against Chapman. He is 3-1 and is fighting at 145 Jan. 15 in Parma OH. Tune in.
January 8th, 2011 at 6:25 am
garbrandt would maybe beat chapman but would get out worked by saltsman. unless garbrandt is really good at fightin off his back i highly doubt it.

January 8th, 2011 at 1:22 pm
i was more impressed by this
http://www.iridiumsportsagency.com/clients.php
saltsman is closely managed by the same people that manage the diaz brothers in the ufc and the kid is just an ami! thats some serious talent right there..
January 8th, 2011 at 2:29 pm
yea I’m gonna have to go with Spohn on this one.
January 8th, 2011 at 5:09 pm
Yeah, I defintely see Spohn winning this one!
January 9th, 2011 at 11:06 am
I’m goin’ with Hendricks in this one. Spohn is tough for sure but Hendricks is focused and has a great camp going! I’d also like to see Cody Stevens or Jason McLean vs.Donny Walker. Make it happen Greg!!
January 9th, 2011 at 12:14 pm
lets see everyones predictions for all the fights they want to see on this card.
January 9th, 2011 at 1:39 pm
Spohn=), all the way!
January 9th, 2011 at 1:50 pm
cody garbrandt is the future i just watched hinm spar at evolve destroying eveyone on his feet he is hard to take down hos striking is top grade war nolove goodluck to you.
January 9th, 2011 at 2:45 pm
hes hard to take down but saltsman would run a take down clinic on him. garbrandt better be good on his back because his great boxing isint going to do him anygood when hes laying on his back defendin against tylers vicious ground and pound.
January 9th, 2011 at 6:07 pm
Vicious GnP haha. Ur drunk tylers hands are garbage and he better be good at waking up with a flashlight to his face because cody will destroy him. BP would run a thai clinic on tyler also. Let me guess tylers thai coach is Phil Nurse and his jits coach is marcelo garcia. Lets quit talkn about this kid. Hes another John Hedges
January 9th, 2011 at 6:44 pm
tyler’s stand up isint to that top level yet but hes tough on the ground, i like his double hammer fist!
January 9th, 2011 at 7:01 pm
chapman, cody, and bp would all easily knock saltsman out in the first round.
January 9th, 2011 at 7:08 pm
HAHAH @lolattyler….John Hedges was the man, well until he actually fought someone who knew what they were doing
January 9th, 2011 at 7:11 pm
Taking nothing away from ray yanex but tyler was scared shitless to go to the ground with him. I mean I give credit where its due and tyler is tough but hes another GSP who is scared to take chances
January 9th, 2011 at 8:13 pm
lol no he wasnt, he took ray down multiple times every round. ray was scared shitless to go to the ground with him if anything, he didnt have one takedown attempt. tyler dominated him and controlled the whole fight even when they were both standing. i saw the fight myself.
January 9th, 2011 at 10:16 pm
cody is a beast at wrestling to only wrestled 2 yrs in highschool and still got a full ride to college he will def beat tyler saltsman kid is way over hyped make this fight happen at the canton civic center in april!!
January 9th, 2011 at 10:43 pm
exactly he only wrestled 2 years lol. saltsman wrestled 2 years in the penn state division 1 room!
January 10th, 2011 at 9:24 am
anyone could spend 2 years in a wrestling room and not accomplish anything…..cody will destroy saltsman
January 10th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
what place did Saltsman get at senior nationals in high school?
January 10th, 2011 at 3:57 pm
who cares saltsman sucks. he will get knocked out or tapped out in the first period against chapman and garbrandt. hes garbage.
January 10th, 2011 at 4:36 pm
Good to see BIG JOHN HAWK back in the fights.
January 11th, 2011 at 1:46 am
seen cody and saltsman live……..saltsman is the better wrestler on paper, BUT I think cody is more of a mixed martial artist and wins because of it. him and saltsman fighting will determine a front runner in the 2011 series
January 11th, 2011 at 8:46 am
so what do we think about the main event?
January 11th, 2011 at 10:11 am
I saw the ray and Tyler fight too. Tyler didn’t Want to stand at all and when he did ray landed his hands.. Tyler won the fight that’s for sure . Tyler gound and pound isn’t that good either because ray got up to his feet after the take down. Tyler will get tapout by the naafs champ..
January 11th, 2011 at 10:55 am
so are the two big guns cody and saltsman? are we just going to assume saltsman and garbrandt are both better than isaiah?
January 11th, 2011 at 11:04 am
how did tyler win the fight then? it sounds like he did absolutely nothing
January 11th, 2011 at 8:43 pm
SPOHN for sure
January 12th, 2011 at 8:09 am
Don’t get me wrong tyler won that fight . I think he won because he took ray down in each of the rounds .. But he didn’t do to much after that. But he won .I would like to see Tyler and ray fight again.
January 12th, 2011 at 2:33 pm
why? ray couldnt hold tylers jock strap or defend his takedowns if his life depended on it. spohn will win for sure.
January 17th, 2011 at 10:08 am
For those asking and emailing, The Hendricks vs Spohn fight will NOT be for the 205 title like some web sites are reporting. That was a false report that was posted by the website that first psoted the story.
January 17th, 2011 at 11:58 pm
McCall was not the Heavyweight Champion when he fought Hendricks.
January 21st, 2011 at 2:21 am
why cant we all get along good luck to you tyler and cody
January 21st, 2011 at 12:15 pm
tommy deroia… u will see the future of naafs ammy 205!!!!!!!!
February 15th, 2011 at 5:58 pm
You don’t want Spohn to be champion. He’s beaten the entire division and when he beats a UFC vet you STILL aren’t giving the title. What’s the point for him to stay in NAAFS then?
February 17th, 2011 at 4:44 pm
Obviously you guys DO NOT know the wrestling ability of cody garbrandt . Cody won a OHIO Not no New Hampshire state title and he did this as a freshman . He got second the year after . He lost interest in the sport and couldve been a 4x Ohio state champ.. Yea saltsman is a good wrestling .. But i will put money on it he could not take cody down more then once if that .. His natural wrestling ability is down right Insane. Go watch his wrestling videos and look at his talent ..
February 24th, 2011 at 1:50 pm
“HEAVY” Hendricks all the way… he is going to give Spohn a good ass beatin…. I have been training with him for weeks now and he is one Mean machine… Good luck Josh!!
February 24th, 2011 at 6:18 pm
i think a lot of people are forgetting that hendricks is dropping down a weight class. instead of being a small heavy weight he is now going to be a big light heavy weight. yeah he lost to gonzaga. most in the naafs will never make it to that level to fight anyone of that caliber.
February 27th, 2011 at 10:34 am
@ Chris, Haha you must have been a great training partner. What gym are you from? Last I heard Hendricks does not have a gym to train at and it showed! Waste of talent!
February 28th, 2011 at 8:57 pm
Chris, your an idiot. I am going to come down to “Inferior” Fitness and give you a beating. Who the hell are you to train with a top level MMA fighter? Let me know when your ready to train with someone that is focused, in shape, hungry and prepared. Go sell some gym memberships jack ass.
